Workers Educational Association Green Branch – Join our e-mail list to receive notification and minutes of meetings. We also send round the Transition Initiative Newcastle newsletter and occasional other things of interest. Contact Nigel Todd, the Green Branch secretary to join.

The North East Permaculture Network is a google group open to anyone to join, just follow the link. This is a participatory network with over 600 members sharing a variety of permaculture related news on a regular basis. It is a thriving and informative network. There is also a North East Permaculture Diploma and Teachers group for those considering or having started their permaculture diploma or involved in teaching permaculture, and for Facebook fans there is a North East Permaculture Facebook group and for those further afield there is a North of England Facebook group.

Durham Local Food aims to encourage the production and consumption of locally produced food within County Durham, and to increase the number of processors, retailers and caterers using locally produced food. They have a network that you can join and a website to explore with lots of local food information

The Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens can provide support and advice and run networking events and training sessions. They have an office in the North East- contact or call 01207 5623 317.

South Tyne Sustainability is a Haltwhistle based transition inspired group which runs a variety of projects.  This year we’re focussing on raising awareness of threats to pollinating insect populations and the importance of verges as resource for these insects, and a program of free visits to edible gardens (VEG) to encourage veg growing.  We produce a monthly e-newsletter.  To join the list contact

Land Workers Alliance North East is a local branch of the national network. It provides a means for local land workers to connect and share

Middlesbrough Permaculture Network has its own facebook group. The Network centres on Middlesbrough but also covers the surrounding areas of Redcar, Cleveland, North Yorkshire, Stockton-On-Tees and Hartlepool. Details of projects, events, enquiries and requests for help are posted on the Network’s Facebook group or they can be contacted via Cath at Middlesbrough Environment City project

North Pennines Smallholders Network bring together smallholders, landowners and like-minded people together to learn more about their land and how they can work together to look after it

Scotswood Natural Community Garden based in the west end of Newcastle is a well established permaculture designed community garden

Transition Durham is a constituted network based in Durham City with nearly 350 members, various associated projects and organisations and actively developing new projects and organisations. It’s core group, called the Hub meets monthly and new members are welcome

Transition Initiative Newcastle provides a monthly email newsletter on green related events happening in Newcastle email: transitioninitiativenewcastle (at) and ask to join their list

Transition Tynedale is an exciting and very active transition group based in Hexham with various projects and groups
